Common Problems
Quick and well-equipped, but the wet belt PureTech and EAT8 need careful maintenance
The 208 PureTech 130 is the most appealing petrol 208 to drive, but it inherits every weak point of the EB2 engine family: wet timing belt degradation, oil consumption, carbon buildup and occasional HPFP failure. Most examples also have the Aisin EAT8 automatic, which is reliable when serviced but unforgiving if the ‚lifetime' gearbox fluid is actually left for life. The safest buys have complete Peugeot service history, evidence of shortened oil change intervals, a documented timing belt replacement at or before 100,000 km, and ideally a gearbox oil change. The Stellantis PureTech compensation platform covers qualifying engine repairs up to 10 years / 180,000 km.
